Mahela Jayawardene: The way Rohit-Surya took on the bowlers shows character

By Mumbai Indians

In their second encounter of Dream11 IPL 2020, defending champions Mumbai Indians emerged victorious over Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs.

While it's early days into the tournament, MI dominated in all departments. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav put up a 90-run partnership for the second wicket as MI gained momentum first-up.

Later, it was the bowling attack led by the trio of Trent Boult, James Pattinson and Jasprit Bumrah who were consistent with their lengths and took wickets regularly.

There was an animated conversation in the Mumbai Indians dressing room after the win. Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene and Director of Cricket Operations Zaheer Khan praised the team members for an exceptional job in the middle.

The way Rohit-Surya took on the bowlers shows character

Mahela Jayawardene: "Superb partnership between Surya and Ro. That shows character out there in the middle. The way they took on the bowlers. They did not have that fear of failure. The ball’s there to hit - you hit. Same with the bowling as well. We were aggressive today. We might get hit here and there. It’s fine. It happens in T20 cricket but we just need to back ourselves."

"It’s a brilliant game. Good comeback. We got four days before the next game. All right? Giving you two days off. Enjoy. All right. And when we get back on the saddle on the 26th. Okay? That’s our training day again. So till then, behave, stay in the bubble."

Rahul Sanghvi (Team Manager): "Before that tonight we celebrate in the team room. It’s our first win in UAE in last...whatever years!"

Trent Boult's maiden over set the tone for us

Zaheer Khan: "Boulty (Trent Boult) starting that maiden over to set the tone. I think these are the things which are coming together and that’s what we are talking about. They’re just going to happen at the right time for us. If you ask us have we played the best cricket possible? You know we have not, but what is exciting is that we are adapting very quickly and that is the exciting part for me when I'm seeing it. Just keep pushing hard, we are on the right track and enjoy it. We know we have two days off so we have to make the most of it."
