MI at WPL 2024 Auction: Slots? Budget? Requirements? We have you covered
End the wait already, please! We’ve gone a bit overtime on our calculators. We after all are the defending champions, and this is where it was all put together in 2023. The Women’s Premier League 2024 Auction is here, and while it might be a mini one, there’s absolutely nothing mini about the excitement in out Paltan as we build up to it.
So here’s everything MI you need to know as we head into the big evening:

On the 9th of December 2023, in Aamchi Mumbai.
Who’s the auctioneer?
Mallika Sagar, who orchestrated proceedings last year too, will be resuming duties.
Who have we retained?
13 players have been retained. Title-winning Kaptaan Harmanpreet Kaur, Most Valuable Player And Purple Cap recipient - Hayley Matthews, Emerging Player of the season - Yastika Bhatia, Player of the Final - Natalie Sciver-Brunt, Amelia Kerr, Isabelle Wong, Chloe Tryon, Pooja Vastrakar, Saika Ishaque, Amanjot Kaur, Jintimani Kalita, Humairaa Kaazi and Priyanka Bala are the 13 retained players who will don the famous Blue and Gold once again come 2024.
And who are the ones released?
Heather Graham, Dhara Gujjar, Sonam Yadav, Neelam Bisht are the four players who’ve been released.
So we have four available slots, right?
Five, in fact. The maximum squad size for any team is 18 players. The minimum if 15. Since Mumbai Indians had 17 players in the last season, they are eligible to buy another five players (four Indians, one overseas).
What’s the purse value we are left with?
2.1 crore INR. Here’s the math: Of the four players let go, Dhara, Sonam and Neelam had their price at 10 lakhs INR each and Heather Graham was bought at 30 lakhs INR. That’s 60 lakhs INR, and an additional 1.5cr INR added to every team’s purse.
Who's available?
A total of 165 players have thrown their hats into the race, off which 104 are Indians and 61 are overseas players, including 15 from Associate nations. Two players - Deandra Dottin and Kim Garth - have slotted themselves in the top 50 lakhs INR bracket.
