MI Charcha | Naman Dhir on Tendulkar’s advice, Polly’s mantra and learnings from Hardik

By Mumbai Indians

Paltan, remember this is Mumbai Indians and strong comebacks are part of our DNA. It is time to go back to the drawing board, regroup, rise, and put our best foot forward during our fifth game of IPL on 16th April 2026. At our fortress, it is time for Mumbai Indians versus Punjab Kings. Ahead of the clash, our star batter Naman Dhir graced MI Charcha, lighting up the space in a conversation packed with freshness, energy, insights, and pure MI spirit.

From auctions, to RTM on being asked what he has learnt from the MI dressing room during his journey with the Mumbai Indians. Naman said, “It was very unexpected that I would be a part of Mumbai Indians someday. Everyone has a dream to join this franchise, work alongside top cricketers and share the dressing room with them. I have learnt a lot from Polly, Hardik, Surya. I learn from them all the time, during games, net sessions and off the field too. Conversations with them not only help in improving my cricket but are also impactful in my daily life.”

Mumbai Indians dressing room is known for that one word ‘Believe’ talking about the vibe currently within the unit. Naman expressed, “There is a positive vibe just like how it should be within every team and there is a big belief factor, though we have lost three matches on the trot. We can still qualify and reach the play offs. Last year too, we were in a similar situation…there is no panic mode on. All of us know, we must follow our process and play well, the results will follow.”

According to the team’s requirements, Naman plays at various positions for the side like almost a floater. He reflected on his preparation process. “You must play good cricket according to the situation. I bat at number four while playing domestic cricket, here I bat at the number six position. It is not such a big difference. I have to play shots as soon as I enter, since there is no time to settle down. I prepare myself in the nets according to the match situation itself. When one’s preparation is good, then you can pull off anything during the game.”

Speaking about handling pressure and soaking it all in, Naman told us, “Earlier, I would overthink a lot that I always need to perform well. It is not good to overthink; I understand that now. If you have faith in your preparation and process, then it will automatically reflect on the field too.”

MI’s support staff and coaches too are big stars. Naman spoke about learning valuable lessons from them. “I speak a lot with Pollard and he helps me a lot with my batting and mental conditioning. He always advises me to stay away from the outside noise. Sachin Sir also says, stick to your process, work on your game, stay patient and results will follow.”

When opportunities knock, Naman Dhir is ready to answer loud and clear with his impactful performances!
