MI eye fresh start at Delhi against RR
The Mumbai Indians come into their first game in Delhi with two back-to-back losses, having won only two out of their five games in the Chennai leg. Rajasthan Royals, who have been pretty inconsistent in the IPL so far, also have just two victories to their name.
Both the teams will look at the change of venue to bring them a change in fortunes as well. Ahead of MI’s first game in Delhi, below are some important points:
Captain consistent - Rohit Sharma
The Mumbai Indians captain has been consistent with the starts he’s given to the team so far. In the last five games, he has made 201 runs, averaging around 40 runs a game. However, he will need a consistent support from his able middle order to help the Blue and Gold post solid runs on the board.
Consistent bowling performances from MI
The Mumbai Indians bowlers have performed exceptionally well, even snatching victories from seemingly impossible positions, like against KKR and SRH. Even in the games that the team lost, the bowling department has put up a mighty fight before facing defeat.
Leggie Rahul Chahar has the most wickets - 9. He is followed by Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah at 6 and 4 wickets each. Most importantly, they have all been pretty economical in the games, helping MI fight for victory despite having a low target to defend.
RR lose more overseas players
After Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer had to leave because of injuries, Andrew Tye flew back to Australia citing personal reasons. Liam Livingstone too left the squad for safety reasons. The team currently has just four overseas players - Chris Morris, Jos Buttler, Mustafizur Rahman and David Miller - all of whom are a part of the playing XI.
First afternoon game for MI
Mumbai Indians are set to play their first game under the sun in Delhi. This means that the playing conditions will remain dry and dew won’t be a factor that the captains will consider before making their decision at toss time. Fielding under the scorching heat and immediately walking out to bat can be tiring too, and could be a deciding factor for making a choice.
Delhi’s playing conditions
While the Men in Blue and Gold are surely happy to leave Chennai behind, the playing conditions in Delhi cannot be called that great for batting as well. The average first innings score here is 156, and that for the second innings is 145 in T20s. We can only wait and see what this pitch has to offer tomorrow.
Head-to-head record
The two teams have 12 victories each against the other team. Kieron Pollard has picked 15 wickets and scored 357 runs against RR. For the Royals, their captain Sanju Samson has enjoyed batting against Mumbai Indians, with 485 runs against this opponent in his kitty.
It will be exciting to see the two teams fight it out and look to kick-start their stint in Delhi on a winning note. The two teams will battle it out on 29th April 2020 at 3.30 PM in the Arun Jaitley stadium.
