MI Junior: Swami Vivekanand, IES VN Sule, KC Gandhi move into Boys U-14 quarters

Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivali), IES VN Sule English School (Dadar), KC Gandhi English School (Kalyan) and others reached the Boys Under-14 quarterfinals of the Mumbai Indians Junior Inter School Cricket tournament here on Friday.

Powered by rollicking centuries from the willows of Vedant Nirmal (109) and Yug Asopa (105), Swami Vivekanand International School (Borivali) cruised into the Boys Under-14 quarterfinals.

Put in to bat by Sane Guruji English Medium School (Dadar), the Borivali school racked up 288 for 3 in their stipulated 40 overs. They then bundled out the Dadar boys for just  94 in 26 overs, with Manthan Mestry (3 for 7) and Arnav Lad (3 for 15) doing the damage. Swapnik Waghdhare waged a lone battle, managing 54.

In another Boys U-14 pre quarter-final match, IES VN Sule English School (Dadar) too rode on two centuries to book their place in the Last 8. Shon Korgaonkar (145 n.o) and Ved Tendulkar (135 n.o) were in an attacking mood as IES raced to 309 for 2 in 40 overs.

In reply, Vibgyor High School ICSE (Goregaon) could manage just 28, losing all their wickets in 17.4 overs. Shaurya Rai set up the win, taking 4 without conceding a single run.

In a thriller that went to the penultimate ball of the match, KC Gandhi English School (Kalyan) beat IES New English School (Bandra) by a solitary wicket in another pre quarter-final match.

Riding on brilliant performances from Gandharva Bhike (66), Om Malkar (63) and Adved Raut (4 for 8), VPMS Vidya Mandir Dahisar East beat Vibgyor High (Malad East) by 193 runs in another Boy's U-14 match. Chasing a target of 236 runs, Vibgyor High were bowled out for just 42 runs.

Aayush Shinde's fine fifty (64), Anjuman-I-Islam Allana English Medium School posted a total of 199 runs and then bowled out Don Bosco High School (Matunga) for 79 runs with Yuvan Sharma (3 for 13) and Zaid Khan (3 for 21) producing match-winning producing match winning performances.

Meanwhile, brilliant outings from Aarya Karle (82), Marlesh Shinde (75) and Evyaan Shaw (3 for 7), RR Education Trust (Mulund) registered a 108 run-win over Oxford Public School, Kandivali, who were bowled out for 93 in another pre-quarter match.

Riding on fifties from Neeraj Dhumal (87) and Samridh Bhat (52), Parag English School (Bhandup) posted a total of 276 for 5. In reply, St Mary's High School SSC (Mazgaon) were bowled out for 71 as Parin Dalvi claimed a sensational fifer (5 for 17).  

In another Boy's U-14 match, Vedant Patil's unbeaten fifty (67 not out) led Swami Vivekananda International School (Kandivali) to 8-wicket win over Modern English School (Chembur). The likes of Vedant Patil (3 for 19) and Kishan Yadav (3 for 32) bowled out Modern English School (Chembur) for 170 before Vedant's match-winning knock.
