MIvGT Preview: Another payback awaits. Five-time champs vs Defending champs
Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans. The five-time champions, in rampaging form, up against the defending champions at renowned Wankhede Stadium. That too in a Friday blockbuster! Paltan, it doesn’t get any bigger…
With the IPL playoffs on the horizon, the excitement is palpable and the stakes are high as ever. The last time we clashed against GT, our run chase was stifled at 152/9 chasing 207/6 on April 25. It probably was our toughest game.
And this, probably again, would be even tougher. Gujarat are coming on the back of a pretty huge win. But this is precisely what we live for. Challenges. Tough challenges. The way our boys chased down 200 against RCB, almost making a mockery of the target, is enough to send chills into the GT camp. Also, we are into our pet territory - thd second half. We know how to win. We know how to put our foot into the play-off door!
What: Mumbai Indians vs Gujarat Titans
When: 7:30 PM IST, Friday, May 12, 2023
Where: Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai
What to expect: An electric atmosphere at the stadium and an epic battle on the field because it is payback time! The 55-run defeat we suffered in Ahmedabad in the reverse fixture is still fresh in our minds and with a place in top two on the IPL points at stake, the Boys in Blue and Gold don’t need added incentives to come out on top. With the average winning score at Wankhede being 214 this season, expect a flurry of runs too!
It will also be a battle between the best batting side and the best bowling side in IPL 2023. MI batters have scored 1923 - the most runs this season while GT bowlers have picked up the most wickets (77) with the best economy of 8.0.

What you need to do: Cheer, chant and create a wall of sound. The rest will be done by the MI boys who will be motivated and determined to give their all on Friday (May 12) and beat the defending champions.
What they said: “My aim on Friday will be to stick to basics because in T20 cricket, execution on the field is more important than off-the-field planning. I will try to keep it simple and bowl according to what the situation demands rather than going in with loads of planning. The only plan will be to stay as accurate as possible.” says our mystery spinner Kumar Kartikeya on his plan ahead of the big clash.
