Mumbai Indians looking to continue the winning streak
Mumbai Indians would hope to continue their winning streak as they take on Delhi Daredevils at the Wankhede stadium on Tuesday.
Having scored three wins on the trot, Mumbai Indians have regained the confidence after a not-so-impressive start. They are back in the reckoning for the spot in play-offs with eight points in their kitty. Yet another win on Tuesday, would increase their chances even further, of making it to the top four, and Rohit Sharma’s men would try everything in their capacity to achieve that.
Both teams come into this game after having played on Sunday. While Mumbai have travelled from Mohali, following their win over Kings XI Punjab, Delhi have played their Sunday’s game in Mumbai, at the adopted home of Rajasthan Royals.
Mumbai Indians, in fact, would be playing their third game in five days, and constant travel and games; could be a factor. The team management would do everything possible to make sure the team stays fresh. And the fact that the team has won two games in three days would make things a little easier.
Daredevils would go in the game on the back of a defeat against Royals on Sunday, and would obviously be a bit short on confidence. Mumbai Indians would try and capitalise on it.
The Mumbai Indian’s bowling unit has performed well in the past three games. The likes of Lasith Malinga, Mitchell McClenaghan, Harbhajan Singh have been superb with the ball. Jagadeesha Suchith has been more than useful with his left-arm spin. They all will need to continue the good show against a solid Daredevil’s batting line up.
The last time those two sides met, few days back, Shreyas Iyer and JP Duminy scored big runs. Mumbai Indians would have studied them even better now, and would need to have their plans right for the duo, as well as for the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Yuvraj Singh and Angelo Mathews. Daredevils have a relatively long tail, and hence, taking early wickets is important to have success.
The form of the top order has been a big plus for the hosts in the past few games, and the team management would hope to see them continue that. Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons have been important in making the most of the Power-play overs, and their start is crucial to the team’s progress.
It would be a kind of home-coming for Zaheer Khan, who played for Mumbai Indians for the past two seasons. Khan knows the conditions at the Wankhede very well, and it would be interesting to see how the Mumbai Indian’s batsmen handle him on Tuesday night.
