Pollard recreates history at Antigua with six sixes in an over

By Mumbai Indians

Kieron Pollard kicked off the first T20I against Sri Lanka in style. The West Indies skipper set the stage on fire at Antigua with six sixes in an over. He became only the third cricketer to achieve the feat in international cricket after Herschelle Gibbs and Yuvraj Singh.

The big man from Trinidad and Tobago arrived at the crease after Akila Dananjaya had just picked a hat-trick. The off-spinner got rid of Evin Lewis, Chris Gayle, and Nicholas Pooran to reduce the hosts to 52/3.

However, he wouldn't have imagined his fate in the next over as Pollard went bonkers with the bat. The first maximum cleared the long-on fielder comfortably. He followed it up with a straight six and one over long-off to make it three-in-three.

Akila then decided to bowl a wrong'un but Pollard deposited it in the stands again. He also hit the fifth ball for six towards long-on. The final delivery was bowled on the pads and Pollard hit it over mid-wicket to make it six sixes in a row.

I knew I had the bowler on backfoot after five sixes

Not often do you come across someone who ends up winning the Man of the Match despite a hat-trick in the game. Pollard spoke at the post-match conference about his valuable feat at the crease.

"I felt I could hit six sixes after the third one. Once I had five sixes, I knew I had the bowler on the back foot. He was going around the wicket and it was difficult for him. I just told myself: Go for it"
