Pollard’s 10 best moments to mark his 10th year with MI
Kieron Pollard is now in his 10th season with Mumbai Indians and over the years, he’s become one of the cornerstones of #OneFamily. The strong all-rounder has represented MI 142 times in the Indian Premier League (IPL), scoring 2671 runs and taking 56 wickets. To celebrate his 10th year with us, we let’s take a walk down memory lane and revisit 10 of his finest contributions to MI with bat, ball and in field.
1. Single-handedly won the first semi-final, IPL 2010
After going under the radar in the auction, Pollard showed the world what all the fuss was about in the 2010 semi-finals against Royal Challengers Bangalore. His swift 13-ball 33 ensured that MI posted 184 for 5 having been on 144 in the 18th over. The Trinidadian then dismissed Robin Uthappa, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey and ran-out Rahul Dravid to get MI to their first IPL final.
2. A stellar all-round performance, IPL 2012
The 12th game of the 2012 edition saw us host Rajasthan Royals. This was Pollard’s finest all-round display in a MI shirt. Not only did he score 64 from 33 deliveries, Pollard also finished with bowling figures of 4 for 44 and bagged the Man of the Match award.
3. Smashed Chennai Super Kings and took a sensational catch, IPL 2013
After walking in to bat with MI at 83 for 6 in 12 overs, Pollard decided to put on a show in what was just the fifth match of IPL 2013. He smashed four fours and five sixes en-route to 57 off 38 balls. Pollard’s heroics ensured MI reached 148, which proved to be enough. Polly also took a brilliant catch on the boundary ropes to dismiss CSK skipper MS Dhoni in this game.

4. Stuns Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2013
Surprise packages of IPL 2013, Sunrises Hyderabad had scored 178 for 3 and had a good bowling attack to defend that total. SRH looked like they were going to win the contest with MI 99 for 3 in the 14th over, requiring 79 runs for the win in less than seven overs. In walked Pollard to change the course of the game by targeting Thisara Perera and Amit Mishra. He hit them for six sixes in the span of seven balls to eventually win us the game comfortably with three balls to spare.
5. Saves his best for the last, IPL 2013
Pollard though saved his best performance of the season for the final against CSK. With MI reeling on 52 for 4, Pollard walked out to the middle and got them to a competitive total of 148 to defend. His unbeaten 60 off 32 balls and a wicket in the second innings were crucial to our maiden IPL trophy.
6. Being counted when things don’t go your way, IPL 2014
After a start that saw us lose our opening five games of the season in UAE, Pollard chipped in with a crucial 12-ball 28 against Kings XI Punjab at the Wankhede. This knock of his helped us get our first victory of the campaign and gave us much-needed momentum as well as confidence to turn around the season and make it to the playoffs.

7. Redefining the art of fielding, IPL 2014
The same season witnessed Pollard pull off something remarkable in the field as Rajasthan Royals hosted us in match 44 at Ahmedabad. MI scored 178 and RR never really threatened in the run-chase either. However, it was Pollard’s effort in the field that grabbed everyone’s attention. The moment of the match came in the eight over when he took a breathtaking catch on the boundary ropes. He jumped and took the catch one-handed but was going over the ropes. To avoid it being a six, he threw the ball back into the field, went over the ropes and recovered in time to run back in and take the catch one-handed diving forward.
8. Keeping his nerve with the ball, IPL 2015
Arguably his best season till date, 2015 was another year where our start to the season wasn’t great. As a result, we found ourselves in a must-win game against Kolkata Knight Riders. Having played a patient knock with Hardik Pandya earlier, Pollard was entrusted to bowl the final over in which KKR required 12. Pollard embraced the challenge of course, and dismissed Yusuf Pathan on the very first ball before conceding six runs from the next two deliveries. He followed it up with three dot balls to give us a crucial victory in our second title-winning season.
9. Thorn in the side of CSK, IPL 2015
The same season saw him prove to be a massive headache for CSK. He scored 41 from 17 balls against them in the first qualifier to guide Mumbai to a win. Pollard then added 36 from 18 balls against CSK in the final to help MI reach a massive total of 202 and win us our second title. Overall, the 2015 edition saw him score 419 runs at a strike rate of 163 and hit 28 sixes.

10. Reminds the world of what he’s capable of against KXIP, IPL 2019
His most recent match-winning knock came against Kings XI Punjab earlier this season. Captaining the side in the absence of Rohit Sharma, Pollard walked in to bat in the 8th over with the score on 56 for 2. With a target of 198 to chase, the big-hitting all-rounder left nothing to chance with a dominant knock that silenced his critics. He scored 83 from 31 balls at a strike rate of 267.34 and smashed three fours and 10 sixes to remind everyone that no chase is impossible with him at the crease.
