Powerful MI clash with KXIP in Dubai

By Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians are all set to face Kings XI Punjab at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday.

MI are coming off a spectacular all-round win against KKR. On the other hand, KXIP just managed to cross the finish line against RCB. The Men in Blue and Gold also enjoy a better record against KXIP with 14 victories out of 25 games.

Here, we take you through some of the talking points ahead of the MI vs KXIP match:

Team Momentum

Mumbai Indians have seemed unstoppable as they're on a five-match winning streak in Dream11 IPL 2020. They have continued to dominate the opposition in both departments with some strong performances.

On the other hand, Kings XI Punjab have been languishing at the bottom of the points table. They have often failed to maintain their calm in pressurized situations and their previous match against RCB is a clear proof of the same even though they won.

Flashback

Both teams clashed at Abu Dhabi in their previous fixture. Batting first, skipper Rohit Sharma registered a stupendous knock of 70 (45). However, the match will be vividly remembered for the finishing assault from the pair of Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya. Both added a phenomenal 62 runs to the MI total in the last three overs.

As for KXIP, they started well but lost a couple of wickets in quick succession as Chahar and Krunal struck early for MI. With the required rate soaring as well as the dismissal of Nicholas Pooran, KXIP couldn't keep up with the run-chase. Rahul Chahar, Jasprit Bumrah, and James Pattinson picked up a couple of wickets each as MI won by 48 runs.

Top Order

Quinton de Kock is currently MI's highest run-getter in Dream11 IPL 2020 and scored three fifties in four games. Rohit Sharma has got good starts in the last couple of games and will be looking to convert it into a big one. Suryakumar Yadav has been in sublime touch while Ishan Kishan who didn't get a chance to bat against KKR will be raring to get in the middle.

KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal are at the forefront when it comes to leading run-scorers in IPL this year. Both have an aggregate of 448 and 382 respectively. Chris Gayle began his Dream11 IPL campaign in style with a half-century against RCB.

Finishing Prowess

Hardik Pandya hit some beautiful shots against Pat Cummins on Friday. He will look to continue the momentum and capitalize against KXIP as well. Pollard currently has an average of 174, having lost his wicket only once in the tournament. Krunal is also capable of going for the big hits.

Nicholas Pooran has been batting at various positions for KXIP. His clean striking skills have been quite efficient as seen in his knock of 77(37) against SRH. Glenn Maxwell will look to step the ante in the coming games. Deepak Hooda didn't get a chance to bat in the last game, so it will be interesting to see what he can offer.

Bowlers on the prowl

Trent Boult's consistency with swinging the new ball has not only helped him strike early but also kept the opposition under pressure. Jasprit Bumrah has been bowling tight in the death overs and getting the important breakthroughs. NCN got a wicket but went for a few runs in the death overs. Pattinson on the other hand has nine wickets to his name so far. Rahul Chahar's twin strikes and Krunal's economical bowling was handy for MI in the previous match.

KXIP have gone back to Chris Jordan and he did a fine job against RCB. Mohammed Shami has been KXIP's best bowler so far with 12 wickets in the tournament. Arshdeep Singh has also been decent with the ball. Ravi Bishnoi has picked eight wickets and managed to trouble the opposition batsmen alongside Murugan Ashwin. Maxwell has also chipped in now and then.

Approaching milestones:

- Rohit requires 21 runs more to complete 4000 runs for MI in IPL

- Pollard requires 71 runs more to complete 3000 runs in IPL

- Krunal requires 61 runs more to complete 1000 runs in IPL

- Krunal is also 5 wickets away from completing 50 wickets in IPL

Players to watch out for:

Ishan Kishan: The wicketkeeper-batsman looked in good nick against DC as he scored 28 (15). While he couldn't get a chance to bat against KKR, Ishan will have good memories of the Dubai International Stadium where he registered a brilliant 99 (58) earlier into the tournament.

Jasprit Bumrah: Currently the joint highest wicket-taker for MI, Bumrah has bowled with great precision. Not only has he been economical with the ball but also got the important wickets in the middle. He had impressive figures of 2/18 in the previous encounter against KXIP.
