Ricky Ponting: Rohit Sharma in career-best form

Rohit Sharma has undoubtedly been Mumbai Indians’ greatest star with the bat. Not only has he been the leading run-scorer for MI but third overall in the (Dream11) Indian Premier League as well. The Indian opener also had a splendid World Cup last year where he became the first-ever batsman to post five tons in the tournament.

Former Mumbai Indians captain and coach Ricky Ponting was all praise for Hitman’s form with the bat. He lauded Rohit and termed him as MI’s most dangerous player in a conversation with cricket.com.au.

Rohit is probably in his career-best form right now

It was Ponting in 2013 who had passed on the captaincy baton to Rohit. Ever since then, Hitman relinquished himself not only as a captain by winning four IPL trophies but also as a batsman scoring tons of runs. The two-time World Cup winning captain asserted that Rohit is at his best right now.

“Mumbai Indians dangerman for the season. Rohit Sharma, their captain. One of the premier T20 batsmen in the world. He has got an outstanding record whether it be international cricket or in IPL. He’s probably in his career-best form right now, it’s pretty hard to go past him.”

Earlier, Rohit too had spoken highly of Ponting during his stint with the Mumbai Indians as a player and later as a coach. The Mumbai Indians skipper had spoken highly of his understanding and bringing out the best from a player.

Rohit continued to shine even in early 2020. The latest instance of his form with the bat was against New Zealand in the T20I series where he finished a game with two consecutive sixes when India needed 10 runs off the last two balls.

It will be interesting to see what captain Rohit Sharma has in store as Mumbai Indians kick-off their IPL campaign from 19th September.
