Rohit has gone a notch higher in his last few innings in England: Sachin Tendulkar

Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar has heaped praises on fellow Mumbaikar and his junior Rohit Sharma’s batting. The cricketing legend said that Rohit has gone a “notch higher” as a batter with his show in England, India Today reported.

Rohit scored a useful, well-paced 83 in the second Test’s first innings at Lord’s, which was instrumental in helping India put pressure on England in a game that India eventually won. The Indian opener has been providing the team with great starts from the time they’ve landed in England, first for the World Test Championship Final, and now for this England series.

“From whatever I have seen, I feel, he has taken the lead and he has shown the other side of his temperament and how he can change his game and adapt to situations and play accordingly,” Sachin said.

Even the commentators at the venue were constantly noting how, despite an accelerated pace in the shorter formats, Rohit has shown patience and has managed to stay steady in true Test cricket style.

Sachin further added, “He has been a leader there and KL (Rahul) has supported him brilliantly. As far as playing pull shot is concerned (which got him out in the first innings at Lord's), he has cleared the fence with that shot and I am looking at what he has been able to achieve for the team in both Tests. Rohit has left the ball and defended the ball brilliantly or equally well. He was always a fantastic player but seeing his last few innings in England, I can say he has definitely gone a notch higher.”

These words coming from a batting great like Sachin is a victory to celebrate in itself. He also added that the current Indian bowling attack is one of the best in the world, but would not compare it to former Indian bowling attacks.

“Today this bowling attack is the best in the world. It's a reflection of talent, discipline and ability to work hard on fitness and wanting to learn more. I don't like comparisons across eras because bowling attacks should also be judged by batters who are batting against them. Be it during Kapil's or Srinath's or Zaheer’s generation, there were different batsmen facing them,” Sachin said.

The next Test match against England starts on August 25th at Leeds’ Yorkshire Cricket Ground.
