Rohit Sharma: Appreciate the support I have received through the years
As Rohit Sharma stepped out for the toss against Delhi Capitals at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi, it was his 150th match appearance for MI in IPL.
He became only the second MI cricketer after Kieron Pollard to achieve the milestone. Rohit made his debut for the franchise back in 2011.
A couple of years later, he was elevated to the captaincy role. Ever since then, Hitman has led MI to four IPL trophies. He is also the highest run-scorer for Mumbai Indians.
As MI kept their winning streak intact against DC, Rohit gave a speech at the dressing room after completing his 150th IPL match in the Blue and Gold. The skipper was filled with gratitude for all the support he had received throughout the years.
Support from teammates means a lot
“I think it’s been a great journey. Very happy about it. At the same time, I also appreciate the support that I got from all my teammates through the years. We’ve had many players come and go. To have them around supporting me on the field means a lot.”
As a captain, happy about how we have executed all the plans
“We’ve had a good run so far. We all know this is where the challenges will arise more, the backend of the tournament. The teams will start catching up and we just got to be ahead of them. We have always spoken about it. Individuals know exactly how to figure that out. Whatever we have discussed, whatever we have planned, so far I think we have executed those plans well. As a captain, I am very happy about it. I know but this is not the end and this is not the start. We’re right in the middle and we know that. Let’s keep the focus on it.”
Bonding with each other is important
“Focus is always important, we know that. The next seven games that we are going to play will be important. At the same time, we cannot forget to enjoy it. This is a tough tournament but having fun and bonding with each other is important. And I see that happening, so let’s continue to do that.”
