Rohit Sharma has been named as the new captain of the Indian men’s Test team by the BCCI.

The opener - who already had reins of the ODI and T20I teams - will now be the Indian team’s all-format captain. Jasprit Bumrah has been named as his deputy in the T20I and Test squads.

This is the first time that Rohit Sharma will be captain of India in Tests. He has captained the country in 37 ODI and T20Is, winning 31 and losing just six.

The Indian men’s team selectors also named the squads for the upcoming T20I and Test series against Sri Lanka.

Jasprit Bumrah returns to the Indian side for the T2oIs and Tests after having a short break post the South Africa series, as does Mohammad Shami.

Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan also made it to the T20I squads while Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja, who makes a comeback after a lengthy injury, have also been named.

Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant have been rested for the T20Is but will return for the Tests.

Ravindra Jadeja and Shubman Gill, another injury returnee, have also been named in the Test squad. Spinner Saurabh Kumar has also received his first call-up for the Tests.

Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Ishant Sharma and Wriddhiman Saha were not named in the Test squad.

India will play three T20Is and two Tests against Sri Lanka. The T20Is will be played in Lucknow and Dharamsala while the two Tests will be played in Mohali and Bengaluru.
