“Privileged to call you my confidant, coach, friend”: Rohit’s tribute to ‘work-wife’ Dravid

By Mumbai Indians

Respect. Rapport. Results. This was the essence of the successful Rohit Sharma - Rahul Dravid partnership at the helm of the Indian cricket team from 2021 to 2024.

The modern fusion of two worlds — RO’s flamboyance and Dravid’s perseverance — was an instant success. It created a symphonic universe in which India kept upskilling as a contender for ICC silverware in these three years and ultimately won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in June 2024.

Having navigated his emotions through the magnitude of support from the fans, his peers and the fresh memories of the T20 World Cup final triumph, Rohit took to Instagram to pen down an emotional tribute to Dravid, the now-former Head Coach.

“Dear Rahul bhai, I have been trying to find the right words to properly express my feelings on this, but I'm not sure I ever will, so here’s my attempt,” the Hitman wrote on his Instagram handle.

“Since my childhood days, I have looked up to you just like billions of others, but I was lucky enough to get to work with you this closely,” he added.

Ro-HIT applauded Dravid for channelling his love for the team badge into his coaching prowess.

“You are an absolute stalwart of this game but you left all of your accolades and achievements at the door and walked in as our coach and came on a level where we all felt comfortable enough to say just about anything to you. That is your gift, your humility and your love for this game even after all this time. I have learnt so much from you and every memory will be cherished.”

“My wife refers to you as my work wife and I’m lucky to get to call you that too 😊.”

Lastly, with both Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid fulfilling their dream to lift a World Cup title as a captain and coach, the former thanked his confidant, his coach and his friend for the memorable journey.

“This was the only thing missing from your arsenal and I’m so happy that we got to achieve it together. Rahul bhai it has been an absolute privilege to get to call you my confidant, my coach and my friend,” he wrote.
