Sri Lanka win first-ever T20I series against India

By Mumbai Indians

After losing the first T20I, Sri Lanka came back strongly to win the next two games and win the series.

Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Team India were reduced to 36/5 in nine overs. Some contributions from Kuldeep Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar allowed India to bat out 20 overs even though they could only post 81/8 on board.

It was always going to be advantage Sri Lanka with such a low total on board. They lost three wickets but were always on course for the target. The hosts ended up winning with 33 balls to spare.

We take you through some of the talking points of the final T20I.

Wanindu Hasaranga bamboozles with spin

The leg-spinner was terrific in the third T20I where he picked a four-wicket haul. Wanindu Hasaranga conceded just nine runs in his four overs spell. He ended the T20I series with seven wickets and won both the Man of the Match as well as the Series.

India lose top four in powerplay overs

Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed early in the first over as he edged it to slip. Devdutt Padikkal was adjudged LBW for 9. In the fifth over, Hasaranga got the better of Samson and Ruturaj which left India reeling at 25/4.

Clinical bowling by Sri Lanka

Dushmantha Chameera got the first breakthrough to dismiss Dhawan. Dasun Shanaka picked a couple of wickets in the form of Nitish Rana and Rahul Chahar. Ramesh Mendis also got a wicket.

Rahul Chahar finishes well

The leg-spinner struck in his very first over to get rid of the in-form Avishka Fernando. Rahul Chahar continued to bowl tightly and got the wickets of Minod Bhanuka and Sadeera Samarawickrama. He finished with figures of 3/15, picking all the wickets that fell.

Team India were short of players and Sri Lanka played

it to their advantage. The young side broke their series losing streak with some fantastic performance in the third T20 international. They will be keen to carry this confidence further.
