The Magnificent Jos
Jos Buttler played one of his best innings at the 2016 ICC Twenty20 World Cup, on 26th March. When England took Sri Lanka head on in a Super 10 match, the result was as expected. Before the game, his scores read 30, 21 & 6 which wasn’t something to boast about and he looked to prove his mettle in his third T20 World Cup.
Diving straight in to the numbers, a magnificent innings of 66* runs came in just 37 balls with 8 fours and 2 sixes. He came in at 65/2 & was scoring runs at a steady pace initially. He ended with a strike rate of 178.38 and remained N.O till the end.
Jos made his intentions clear when he reverse swept Jeffery Vandersay for a boundary in only the 3rd ball he faced! For a batsman that comes in at number 4, it’s tough to get going from the get-go. He began with a humble partnership of 23 runs with Roy, until Roy was uprooted by Vandersay in the 13th over. At the Start of the 14th over England were 88/3 and Butler was joined by skipper Eoin Morgan. Together they helped England cross the 100 run mark in the 16th over. Butler was the hard hitter among the duo in their 74 run partnership off 39 balls. Jos pleased the Delhi crowd by flexing his muscles and gave a glimpse of what he will be bringing to the table in the upcoming season of the IPL.
Jos slammed his 2nd fastest 50 within 28 balls and made sure that there was no dearth of reasons to celebrate for the Delhi crowd. He was particularly merciless against the Sri Lankan pacers who misjudged him and set out to dish Yorkers but offered full tosses instead.
At the end of the day, it was Butler’s unbeaten 66 that helped England see off Sri Lanka and advance to the Semi-Finals.
