“Hyderabad’s wicket is always full of runs” – Tilak on playing at his home ground

By Mumbai Indians

Brace yourselves, Paltan! 🤘 We are all set to square off against the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who boast one of the most destructive batting units in this year’s competition.

Getting better of them on their home turf won’t be an easy thing to do by any means, but we have an equally capable squad to negate whatever they plan to throw at us! 👊

Our star boy Tilak Varma, who also hails from Hyderabad, appeared in the pre-match press conference to share his thoughts on playing in his hometown and the team’s recent run of form.

“It's always special to play on my home ground. Since childhood, I’ve been playing here and it's a very special moment for me.

“Yes, winning three games in a row is always good. It's not easy to win three matches on the trot. But, I would say it's a long tournament. We just want to follow our basics, be calm & do the right things at the right moment.

Initially, a few results didn’t go our way. A couple of matches were very close… It's just a matter of two hits. The team’s atmosphere is good. We believed from the start that we could do better. That's what we are doing and it's coming better now,” said Tilak.

Talking about the pitch at Uppal, which has seemingly been a batter’s dreamland this season, the southpaw opined that he expects nothing less than free-flowing boundaries from both sides.

“Hyderabad’s wicket is always good to bat on and full of runs. So I hope that tomorrow also we can see big scores. We have already seen totals reaching 250+. So, it will be tricky for both teams and we are prepared for that,” the left-hander said.

Meanwhile, our TV also spoke about his experience playing alongside individuals with experience in ICC tournaments and how it has shaped the trajectory of his career.

“I feel that playing with seniors who have won the World Cups is always invaluable. Since I joined MI as a kid, I’ve had good experiences with them and now they have gone on to win ICC tournaments. So, I’ll take as much learnings and insights from them. It helps a lot on and off the field,” Tilak concluded.
