Upbeat West Indies take on high-flying India in Chennai

By Mumbai Indians

After having ended the T20 series against the West Indies on a winning note, India will look to carry forward the momentum in the upcoming ODI series starting in Chennai on 15th December 2019.

Ahead of the three-match series, below are some talking points:

Kohli - India’s second-highest run-getter in Chennai

After MS Dhoni, Indian captain Virat Kohli is the highest scorer at the MA Chidambaram stadium having scored 279 runs. He will best be remembered for an epic 138 (140), where he saved India in a do-or-die match against South Africa in 2015.

Pollard loves Chepauk!

The West Indian captain, who is in great form, too has a century to his name at the MA Chidambaram stadium. Although his 119 (110) against India in 2011 went in vain, his abilities are not to be underestimated on this ground. Pollard has been in form and the visitors will hope for him to get going in the middle overs on Sunday.

Will Mayank Agarwal finally receive his ODI cap?

It is not the first time that Mayank Agarwal has received an ODI call up. He had a sensational year in Test cricket with two double hundreds, a strong hundred and a solid opening partnership with Rohit. With Shikhar Dhawan being unavailable due to an injury, there is a chance that Mayank might finally get his ODI cap as an opener. He has strong competition from KL Rahul who also is in scintillating form at the top.

Rohit vs Kohli - A healthy competition

The Indian captain and his deputy are in a race to end up as the top run scorer this calendar year. While Kohli stands at 1288 runs, Rohit isn’t too far behind at 1232 runs. With the year-end around the corner, it’ll be interesting to see who finishes at the helm. Indian fans will surely love this.

Alzarri, Hope return to bolster Windies

Alzarri Joseph and Shai Hope are additions to the West Indies’ squad for the ODI series. With usual opener Evin Lewis sitting out due to an injured knee, there is a good chance that Brandon King will open with Hope, who is also the highest ODI run-getter for the visitors this year.

Followed by the first game in Chennai, the teams will meet in Visakhapatnam (December 18th) and Cuttack (December 22) for the rest of the series.
