India’s 88-run victory against West Indies at Lauderhill meant the five-match T20I series ended in a 4-1 win for the Men in Blue.

Shreyas Iyer’s 40-ball 64 coupled with Ravi Bishnoi’s 4/16 helped the visitors defend their score of 188/7 in 20 overs. Windies, meanwhile, were bowled out for 100 in 15.4 overs.

Stand-in India captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to bat first. Both teams opted to ring in four changes to their playing XI, in an attempt to get some of the bench players some game time.

India, for starters, had Pandya, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer and Kuldeep Yadav come in for Rohit Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Suryakumar Yadav and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Hosts West Indies, meanwhile, brought in Shamarh Brooks, Odean Smith, Keemo Paul and Hayden Walsh for Brandon King, Kyle Mayers, Akeal Hosein and Alzarri Joseph.

India got off to a decent start, with a score of 53/1 in the mandatory powerplay. Opener Ishan Kishan was dismissed for 11 by Dominic Drakes.

The 76-run stand between Shreyas Iyer and Deepak Hooda took the Men in Blue past 100 in 10.2 overs.

However, the pair departed in overs 12 and 13. Hayden Walsh grabbed Hooda’s wicket in the 12th over while Iyer’s knock of 64 off 40 balls was brought to an end by Jason Holder in the next over.

A late cameo from Hardik Pandya (16-ball 28) carried India to a 180-plus score until his dismissal in the final over.

Odean Smith was the pick of the West Indian bowlers as he registered a career-best figures of 3/33 in T20I cricket.

Windies, chasing 189, got off to a rocky start with 33/3 in the initial six overs.

Jason Holder, opening the innings for the Men in Maroon, was the first to depart as Axar Patel bowled him out for a duck just three deliveries into the second innings.

Axar would once again spell trouble for the hosts as he pocketed the scalps of Shamarh Brooks (13) and Devon Thomas (10) in this third over. The wickets came as a sign of relief for the left-arm spinner as he conceded 13 runs in the fifth over of the game.

Upon reaching their 50 in 7.4 overs, West Indies started losing wickets with skipper Nicholas Pooran the first of Kuldeep Yadav’s three scalps in the fixture.

The 13th over of the game proved to be the turning point for India as Kuldeep registered a double-wicket maiden. A googly delivery on the first ball saw Dominic Drakes fall with just one run on the board while Odean Smith departed for zero.

After hitting a 28-ball 50 under a tense situation, Shimron Hetmyer fell for 56 on the first delivery of the death overs (16-20).

West Indies completed their innings at 100 all out in 15.4 overs, with the Indian spin trio of Axar Patel (3/15), Kuldeep Yadav (3/12) and Ravi Bishnoi (4/16) grabbing three-plus wickets each.

Axar Patel walked home with the Player of the Match award, while Arshdeep Singh was adjudged the Player of the Series as he grabbed seven wickets at an economy rate of 6.58.

India ended the five-match T20I series with a 4-1 series win over West Indies, with their next T20 assignment being the upcoming Asia Cup 2022 later this month.
