About Kumar
‘I call myself a mystery spinner,’ said Kumar Kartikeya when asked how he described himself. He shot to fame in the 2022 season of the IPL, playing a crucial role in snapping MI out of its eight-match losing streak.
The 25-year-old left-arm spinner, who can bowl orthodox and wrist spin, marked his IPL debut with the dismissal of Sanju Samson of Rajasthan Royals. It was almost like a dream tale for Kartikeya, who was in our side as a net bowler, before being signed on as a replacement for the injured Arshad Khan. And before he knew it, found himself in the XI too.
While his T20 record reads 32 wickets in 31 matches, Kartikeya has been a talisman for Madhya Pradesh in first-class cricket (140 wickets in 32 games), playing a crucial role in them winning the Ranji Trophy in 2022, and taking them to the semis in 2023 and 2024.
Come IPL 2024, KK is expected to forge a special partnership with Piyush Chawla and Shreyas Gopal to showcase the true magical nature of spin bowling.
