We can't afford mistakes: Mitchell
After a disappointing turnout to the tight ending of today’s match, Mitchell McClenaghan admits that there were a few mistake made. “Yes I am very disappointed. We have swung the game to our advantage before numerous times. Every single person made a few little mistakes and if you’re going to win the close ones when facing world class players, you can’t afford to do that.” But he takes the loss with a pinch of salt and brushes it off. “Its cricket, these things are going to happen sometimes, you got to be a collective and work through it. You can’t put blame on a single area.” He is optimistic that the team can bounce back in the next game due in a couple of days.
Aaron Finch was the one man who stood between a win for MI, despite being injured. McClenaghan added that, “We were fully focused and committed to the delivery we wanted to bowl and we can’t get distracted by a person even if he is carrying a bit of an injury. Because he can still play the fence and that could have meant the end of the game a lot earlier. But it’s a shame we couldn’t get him (Finch) out.”
Mitchell is now the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2016, with 6 wickets in the bag. One of the reasons for his performance is that he prepares hard for every match, giving his 100% to training and skill development. He reveals his training schedule and said, “It changes all the time, I have been fortunate enough to play a lot of T20 in many different conditions around the world over the last 3 years. Played on different pitches, faced different players and have worked on everything, day in and day out. I am very clinical about my training; I practice my slower balls, Yorkers, bumpers and the sorts. I work on the things am not good at and improve on things I am.”
He continues talking about his training with MI. “We have purpose, we know what we want to go out and execute. So it’s easier to perform to the best of our abilities. Every team in the IPL is strong. Their top order batsmen are world class. We get a lot of information from our analyst and coach Ponting. Together we work through, very diligently on a strategy that we put in place.”
