The game and series might have belonged to England, but Lord’s found its ultimate hero in the form of Rohit Sharma. Take a bow! Hitman painted a great masterpiece, racing to his 34th ODI ton…with brilliance at its best. On a stage steeped in history, he found himself adding another chapter to his glorious career, with his name now featuring on the Lord’s Honours Board. England won by 27 runs at the Home of Cricket, but Royal Rohit stole hearts.

Duckett-Bethell start off with a bang, Prasidh applies the first break

Indian bowlers kept putting in the hard yards, but England took control early on as Ben Duckett and Jacob Bethell had other plans. An outstanding 192 runs opening stand was stitched between both batters. Prasidh Krishna struck as Bethell went for the big shot but found Rohit Sharma at deep square leg who pouched onto the catch holding his ground. Bethell ended with 91(93), aced with 11 fours and two maximums.

Later, Duckett reached his century and was extremely pumped as he helped the hosts go past the 250 runs mark. He eventually also stitched a 101 runs partnership along with Joe Root. Ben was then dismissed with a caught and bowled effort by Prince Yadav on 141, with 18 fours and one maximum.

Root-Buttler add the finishing touches

Root carried forward the same momentum from the previous match and ensured his side scored as many runs as possible. A knock that will be remembered for a long time to come, he ended with a quick fire 48 balls unbeaten 78, nine fours. Buttler supported him well at the other end adding 41* in just 13 balls with four boundaries and three huge sixes.

England scored the highest total at Lords, 387/3 in their allotted 50 overs, Prasidh Krishna grabbed 2/69.  

Captain’s knock from Gill, Ro-Hitman Sharma stands tall

India took control early on as skipper Shubman Gill and Rohit Sharma came out with great positive intent and body language. They smashed some big hits out of the park. A cautious effort in the beginning ensured they gave India a perfect start early on. Gill and Rohit stitched an outstanding 147 runs opening stand together as England were left searching for answers. Unfortunately, Gill was adjudged LBW by an Adil Rashid delivery.

Hitman oh Hitman, what a masterclass ton!

It was a complete Rohit Sharma show at Lord’s as he brought up his 34th ODI century in style. When the stage demanded a hero, our Mumbaicha Raja delivered in his ultimate trademark fashion. From cover drives, to splendid pull shots and towering sixes. He dictated the tempo, making Lord’s his very own. Class, composure and control all demonstrated one by one, the finest white-ball batter had the entire nation applauding his effort. Rohit became the first Indian to score an ODI century at Lord’s. En route he also finds himself at the top of the list of most ODI hundreds in a visiting country, that is eight. He ensured the chase was well on track but alas got bowled on 138(110), with 17 fours and five monster sixes. At this stage India was 260/2 in 38.4 overs.

Kohli keeps India in the hunt with his 74

Virat Kohli too played a good knock helping India slowly move towards target. He looked in great touch notching up his half ton. But with too many runs to chase down, he had to go for the big hits and eventually perished on 74(60) as Sam Curran picked up his third wicket.

India tried their best and kept fighting till the very last ball but alas it was not meant to be as they ended with 360/7 in 50 overs. England won by 27 runs and clinched the series 2-1.
