Five best SKY knocks in 2022 to celebrate his inclusion in ICC T20I Team of the Year!

By Mumbai Indians

Is there anybody remotely surprised by this? The man hit a six off Jofra Archer off the first ball of his international career, this level is a bit too easy for his talent.

Aapla Dada made it to the ICC T20I Team of the Year 2022 having finished the calendar year as the highest run-scorer in the format.

What do the numbers say? He scored 1,164 runs in 31 matches at an average of 46.56 and an outrageous strike-rate of 187.43, including two centuries and nine half-centuries. *Arise, MI Fam, this deserves an ovation*

SKY continues to take giant strides in international cricket and also made it to the Test squad now (Up and up he goes!). Celebrating his incredible year with the bat, let’s take a look at his five best knocks in 2022.

1. ICC T20 WC 2022 | IND vs SA (68 off 40 balls): Mega knock under pressure!

Crucial World Cup match against a strong opponent, the top order departed early, but SKY played the best knock of his international career to help India post a respectable score. While he scored 68 off 40 balls, no other batter in the team managed more than 15 runs.

2. NZ vs IND | 2nd T20I (111 off 51 balls): He truly was batting on a different pitch

At Mount Maunganui, India scored 191/6 batting first in the second T20I. While no other batter could manage a strike rate of 150 among both teams, Surya smashed his second T20I century, which included 11 fours and seven sixes. Clearly a cut above the rest, isn’t he?

3. ENG vs IND | 3rd T20I (117 off 55 balls): First international century!

A first international century is always a special occasion for a cricketer, and SKY dada got that under tremendous pressure. Chasing 216 runs, India lost early wickets, but he just kept going. In the end, he nearly pulled off an impossible run-chase at Trent Bridge and gave the English bowlers a serious nightmare.

4. IND vs SA | 2ND T20I (61 off 22 balls): Strike rate of 277.27!

It was just one of those days where everything SKY touched, turned to gold. India brought up their highest T20I score of 2022 in this match, courtesy this explosive knock from SKY, where he smashed five sixes and five fours.

5. ICC T20 WC 2022 | IND vs ZIM (61 off 25 balls): Physics left the chat!

By this time, it was well established that Suryakumar Yadav can score in any region of the ground. But he took that to another level against Zimbabwe, smashing wide-outside-off-yorkers for boundaries towards fine-leg and square-leg. We all felt the goosebumps when 70,000+ fans at MCG stood up and applauded as SKY walked back to the dug-out chewing his gum.

Trust us, we haven’t even neared the interval in the SKY story. 2023 has gotten off to an even better start. Trust our dada to breach all your expectations once again!
