GTvMI Report: YES, YES, YESSSSSS! WE ARE BACK WITH A MASSIVE WIN, TV-POWERED

By Mumbai Indians

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad was buzzing. Mumbai Indians walked onto the field, knowing they would be tested by their opposition Gujarat Titans. MI have been there before; they know how to rise from tough situations. Beneath all the chaos, a fight was quietly shaping up 💪. Built on belief, comebacks and high-octane energy, Paltan we have found our pulse again 💙. Yes, we were tested early in the tournament, challenged even harder…but the MI spirit- never shook. 👊

Put into bat first, MI notched up 199/5 in 20 overs courtesy Tilak Varma’s humongous 101* and Naman Dhir’s 45. Kagiso Rabada picked 3/33. In reply, GT only managed to score 100 in 15.5 overs. Ashwani Kumar picked 4/24. 🔥👏

A fresh start indeed...

Indeed, a magical night for debutants Danish Malewar and Krish Bhagat who were awarded with their MI caps respectively. Stepping onto the big stage, Danish showed promise and a valuable learning curve under pressure while Krish embraced the occasion without being overawed, that was the first positive sign along with his good bowling skill sets. Both brought in that zing for the team. 💙

Naman Dhir stands tall stabilizing the MI innings

Even though an early storm struck with three quick MI wickets falling, Naman did not panic. He held the innings together when it mattered the most on a rather sticky wicket. Naman contributed 45 in 32 balls, with six boundaries and one maximum. He took the attack back to the opposition, especially hitting two consecutive late cut boundaries in the seventh over. He also stitched a crucial 52 runs partnership with Tilak. 🫡

Tilak Varma smashes brilliant maiden IPL ton

Our very own Tilak scored his maiden IPL century, 101* off 45 balls, aced with eight fours and seven maximums. TV stood out with his good game awareness. He trusted the process, placed his shots in the gaps with a clear understanding of when to take risks and when to simply rotate the strike. En route his century, TV smashed a massive 26 runs (6,4,4,6,6,0) in the 18th over, off Ashok Sharma’s bowling. Tilak also stitched an 81-run stand along with skipper HP. Thanks to his outstanding efforts, MI made 199/5 in their 20 overs. 🥳

SKY-Hardik help keep the scoreboard ticking

Batting at number four today, SKY showed good intent with the bat. He played a flick shot that went for a maximum, the next delivery which was a straight drive was smacked for a four during Rabada’s over. HP on the other hand, played the role of a good motivator for Tilak, and also tried hard to keep the flow of runs coming, when the pitch looked a little tricky.

Boom strikes on his first delivery 💥

JB back to doing super special things, he snapped up the wicket of Sai Sudharsan on the very first delivery of GT’s innings. Krish Bhagat was electric in the field to complete the catch. ⚡

Ashwani’s impactful four wicket haul turns the tide ☝️☝️☝️☝️

During his first IPL game of the season, Ashwani Kumar picked the all-important wicket of the dangerous Shubman Gill, the man in form. He moved across to the leg side to play the shot, did not time it well and Naman made no mistake in the deep. Later, Ashwani also snapped up key wickets of Rahul Tewatia, followed by Rashid Khan and Shahrukh Khan, finishing with 4/24.

Santner works his magic

Mitchell Santner picked the wickets of Washington Sundar and Glenn Phillips in the same over. Naman Dhir pulled off a beauty, timing the catch of Washington to perfection at the boundary line. 🕸️

Ghazanfar in the end, hit the last nails in the coffin by snapping up Rabada and Siraj in the same over. Within no time GT were bundled out for 100.

Brief Scores: Mumbai Indians 199/5 in 20 overs (Tilak Varma 101*,Naman Dhir 45; Kagiso Rabada 3/33) BEAT Gujarat Titans: 100 all out in 15.5 overs (Washington Sundar 26; Ashwani Kumar 4/24, Mitchell Santner 2/16, Allah Ghazanfar 2/17) by 99 runs.
