Guwahati T20I abandoned without a ball being bowled

By Mumbai Indians

The first T20 international between India and Sri Lanka was called off due to rain which left a couple of wet patches on the pitch. As a result, both teams began their 2020 with an abandoned game.

Here are the five talking points of the first T20I:

Bumrah’s comeback will have to wait

The Indian pace stalwart was in-line to make his much-awaited international comeback at the Barsapara Stadium. However, now the fans will have to wait for the second T20I at the Holkar Stadium in Indore to get a glimpse of Jasprit Bumrah in the Indian colours.

India leave out Chahal, Jadeja

Both Yuzvendra Chahal and Ravindra Jadeja didn’t make it to the playing XI. Skipper Virat Kohli went ahead with Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar due to presence of the left-handers in the Sri Lankan side.

No place for Angelo Mathews

Angelo Mathews, who was expected to make a return into the shortest format, couldn’t find a place in the playing XI. It remains to be seen if the experienced all-rounder will get a chance in the next game.

Drying techniques at Guwahati

There were some epic techniques used to get rid of the damp patches on the ground. A hairdryer, iron box and a vacuum cleaner were used to dry the pitch.

Crowd singing Vande Mataram in unison

As the covers kept coming in and going off, it didn’t dampen the spirits of the Guwahati crowd. The whole stadium came together as one when they sang ‘Vande Mataram’ in unison.

The second T20 international is scheduled to take place at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on the 7th of January.
