INDvSA, 1st Test report: On the wrong side of a low-scoring thriller :(

By Mumbai Indians

India battled, pushed, and stayed in the contest for two action-packed days, as both sides traded blows on a pitch that had something for every bowler. From Bumrah’s masterclass on Day 1 to the 15-wicket mayhem on Day 2, this Test swung back and forth with every session, refusing to hand momentum to either team for too long.

And just when it felt like India had clawed its way right back into the fight, Day 3 tilted the script ever so slightly the other way. A gritty morning, a tricky chase, and a surface that demanded perfection - it all came together for a finish that slipped past us by a narrow margin.

Day 1 | JOY-ous start in the City of Joy

Opting to bat first, openers Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton stitched a 57-run partnership, collecting a few boundaries.

After that, it was all India as Bumrah & Siraj made the most of reverse swing on offer. 🔥 They were ably supported by Axar and Kuldeep, who also troubled the batters at will and continued to make inroads.

However, the day belonged to JASPRIT BUMRAH. The National Treasure bagged 5/27 to dismantle the Proteas.

📝 Stumps, Day 1: India - 37/1 (20 overs) trail by 122 runs

Day 2 | Bowlers from both teams make merry

As many as 15 wickets fell on Day 2, making it a nightmare for the batters out there.

The hosts added 152 runs to their overnight score, with KL Rahul scoring 39 runs. South Africa spinner Simon Harmer was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4/30.

Trailing by 30 runs, the Temba Bavuma-led side fought their way to 93/7 as Jadeja’s impeccable form helped him register 4/29 at stumps.

📝 Stumps, Day 2: South Africa - 93/7 (35 overs) lead by 63 runs

DAY 3 | A tough day at the office

South Africa began the morning with a lead of 63 and three wickets still standing, as Bosch and Bavuma looked to stretch the advantage. The pair added 42 crucial runs to the overnight score before BOOM produced yet another moment of magic to remove Bosch and break the stand.

From there, Siraj provided a 🔥 spell, and the innings was wrapped up in no time, with the Proteas bowled out for 153.

With the surface gripping and doing all sorts, the chase was never going to be straightforward. India fought, scrapped, and hung in… but South Africa managed to earn the win. Falling 30 runs short, India slipped to a 0-1 deficit, with everything to play for in the next Test at Guwahati.

India have a proud record at home, and we are all set to give it our all and make sure the series stays level!

Brief scores: India 189/10 (KL Rahul 39, Simon Harmer 4/30) & 93/10 (Washington Sundar 31, Simon Harmer 4/21) lost to South Africa 159/10 (Aiden Markram 31, Jasprit Bumrah 5/27) and 153/10 (Temba Bavuma 55*, Ravindra Jadeja 4/50) by 30 runs.
