Qualifier 2 (As it happened): We fought. We tried. We stretched. But 2023 isn’t to be :(

By Mumbai Indians

Fin.

It wasn't meant to be. This hurts. But, we chin up and reflect on what has been a roller-coaster of a campaign! The positives? SKY Yadav wore his heart on his sleeve to provide us an impetus to our chase with his fifty, along with Tilak Varma (43) and Cameron Green (30). Credit and congratulations to Gujarat Titans for a standout performance with the bat and ball. Until then, it's goodbye from us. See you next season, Paltan

Kaptaan Rohit with some final words

"It was a great total, Shubman batted really well. The wicket was really good. Couldn't stitch enough partnerships. Green and Surya batted well but we lost our way. We spoke about giving it a good crack, we lost a couple of wickets in the powerplay and did not get the momentum when chasing a target like that. We wanted one batter just like how Shubman batted till the end, and you never know - one side is shorter and the wicket was good, anything can happen, credit where it is due, Gujarat played well."

No, no, no, noooooo. As we keep fighting it out, we sadly keep losing our men. Alas, the equation is getting out of hand. And alas, with teary eyes, we see the season slipping by ..

The sky will not fall

Who said it? SKY Yadav. How? A 50 off 33 balls. Is the chase done? Not on his watch!

Approaching the half-way line!

110-3 at the end of 10 overs. Let's keep it here. We BELIEVE. There is something great in store.

Powerplay charcha

The fourth and fifth overs, especially the one where Tilak Varma hit four successive fours off Shami, brought a timely respite to our Paltan present in the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Tilak, at the very end of the powerplay over, was dismissed. However, we would see that Cam Green step out to bat again. Paltan, once again, we need you to the inevitable. BELIEVE!

Keep BELIEVE-ing!

A few early bruises

Well, we didn't have the start we wanted. Impact player Nehal Wadhera (4) and Rohit Sharma (8) saw their stay cut short by Mohammed Shami.

Cameron Green joined Ishan Kishan on the sidelines and thus, our run-chase is now helmed by Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma.

If anything, Aapla Dada Surya has just one to say: Aayega, aayega! Apna time aayega."

Intermission

Well, the first innings was like a cinematic experience. No denying. Our bowlers were at the mercy of Shubman Gill, but we did get three wickets in the bag.

However, don't write us out just yet. BELIEVE. We are the masters of chasing down 200+ totals this year for fun. So, it's time to add another to our list.

Dropped on 1, redeemed 99 balls later

A Shubh-ratri for Gill comes to an end. Shubman Gill flicked an attempted yorker delivery from Akash Madhwal towards deep mid-wicket. But there stood Tim David, who redeemed himself after he dropped Gill on 1 earlier in the innings.

*Time for substitution*

An untimed injury to Ishan Kishan on the field made us call up Vishnu Vinod as a wicket-keeping substitute.

BELIEVE! Apna time aayega

Kitne Gill jeetoge?

Keeping this rivalry aside, we congratulate Shubman Gill, the current Orange Cap holder, on completing his third century of IPL 2023. Back-to-back hundreds here in Ahmedabad. Bas karo bhai saab! WTC Final mei yeh form laao please.

Almost there...

Bowlers with most stumping dismissals in the IPL

28 - Amit Mishra

19 - Yuzvendra Chahal

19 - PIYUSH CHAWLA

18 - Harbhajan Singh

We are Mac loving this version of PC

PC draws the first blood!

A man with a big bag of tricks, Piyush Chawla bowls a smart delivery that glides from the leg side of Saha. An untimed early dash, and the GT opener sees the ball go to Ishan Kishan who breaks through the stumps. Cometh the hour, cometh the man!

Powerplay charcha

Shubman Gill anchors Gujarat to a positive start in the powerplay, smacking 31 off his first 20 balls to see GT touch the 50-run mark. To our missed luck, he also survived a caught dismissal. Wriddhiman Saha, meanwhile, played a quiet support cast role at the other end with 18 runs in 16. However....
