SRH vs MI: Excellent fight and effort, but not our night - As it happened

By Mumbai Indians

It's goodbye for now but keep supporting us the same way you have done so far. The fight is on, 12 matches is a long way to go, and Mumbai Indians will continue to move forward. You know we know how to reverse slow starts!

Chasing the highest-ever total in IPL history - 277 - the Blue and Gold mustered a score of 246/5 in their 20 overs. This, in hindsight, is a committed effort in a game where some possibly wrote us off from the very start. We have 12 games to go and now a four-day break to regroup and re-assess our initial games in the build-up to our first home game of the campaign.

11:22 PM: FIN. Mumbai Indians started off with a confident approach - racing to 56 in just 3.2 overs. Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma and Tim David all put their heart out on the pitch with the bat but alas, it wasn't meant to be.

A GOOD GAME OF CRICKET

11:01 PM: 200 BREACHED

10:50 PM: Homeboy Tilak Varma's entertaining knock comes to an end. He struck six sixes in his 34-ball 64 to give the Paltan something to cheer on for at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

10:43 PM: TARGET UNDER 100

10:27 PM: TV hits 50! in 24 balls only. Southpaw on the move..

10:15 PM: MI cross a hurdle - the 100-run mark - in 8 overs. Keep hoping.

10:00 PM: Powerplay update - Aamchi Mumbai are currently at 76/2. Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir have taken charge of the run chase. Paltan, let's get behind these talents and push them to do something special.

9:55 PM: Rohit departs for 26.

9:50 PM: Oh NO! We lose our first wicket. But, well played Ishan!!! 13 balls, 34 runs, 2 x 4s, 4 x 6s

9:48 PM: 50 runs in 3 overs!!!

BELIEVE!

9:40 PM: IT BEGINS! MI get off the mark with 9/0 in the first over. And guess what? Rohit Sharma hit the first boundary of our run chase. Something is brewing. IT. IS. COMING.

**********

9:20 PM: Intermission - A record target of 278 awaits the MUM-Boys. But you know the Paltan. The top order - with Rohit Sharma at the top - know a thing or two on how to chase big totals. And especially against SRH, you may remember how we chased a 200-plus score last season. Let's tap into that persona and let's go rewrite history.

9:10 PM: That Bumrah yorker........

8:45 PM: *Wicket please! Wicket please! Pretty please*

8:31 PM: WICKET! The Professor strikes! Piyush Chawla gets rid of a free-scoring Abhishek Sharma (63). Naman Dhir takes a fine catch at deep mid-wicket. Let's build on this, boys!

8:15 PM: WICKET! And, Travis HEADS out. Gerald Coetzee can breathe a sigh of relief as the Proteas star combines with Naman Dhir to get the Aussie out for 62.

8:00 PM: Paltan, it's prayer time! Travis Head scores his maiden IPL fifty.  We need a wicket. 🙏 The score at the end of the powerplay? SRH - 81/6.

7:52 PM: WICKET! Captain HARDIK makes the breakthrough. Short ball, Mayank Agarwal misjudges a pull shot and Tim David doesn't miss the simplest of catches.

7:45 PM: 🤞 Manifesting a wicket 🤞

7:30 PM: It's his IPL debut and Kwena will bowl the FIRST OVER

7:00 PM: TOSS UPDATE - We win the toss and bowl first

6:50 PM: What does the pitch condition dictate? Bat against the new ball as slower balls win wickets. Chance of dew? Unlikely, reckons Brian Lara.

The MUM-boys are coming off a disappointing defeat, but as the saying goes - the setback is a setup for a comeback. And knowing the Mumbai Indians, the Paltan can be rest assured that a WIN IS LOADING!
