IPL Match 7 | MIvCSK preview: Mid-season momentum comes calling in the form of El Clasico!

By Mumbai Indians

Two iconic teams, five-time IPL champions, big match specialists and history makers. Mumbai Indians lock horns with Chennai Super Kings on 23rd April, 2026, at our fortress, and we cannot be more excited! History revisiting itself this time around louder, brighter and equally unforgettable. As for the Paltan, this is just not any fixture, it’s an emotion in motion. Two heavyweights crossing each other at the big W, carrying years of memories and unfinished business, and one just gets that feeling something very special will unfold.

Before the first ball is bowled, let's walk down memory lane and revisit games that had everything. Memorable finale victories, big hits, bold spells, special performances and last ball twists that still bring a huge smile on our faces.

Tendulkar sets it up, Smith pulls off the impossible (2012)

6th May 2012 is still etched in the memory of Paltan as Sachin Tendulkar smashed a brilliant 74(44) while Rohit Sharma contributed 60(46). The game went down to the wire as MI chased down 174/8 against CSK, on the last ball. POTM Dwayne Smith’s cameo knock of 24*(9), with two fours and two maximums proved to be the game-changing moment.

Champions x2 at Eden Gardens (2013 and 2015)

Defending 148 in a final and winning the first IPL trophy truly remains very special. Kieron Pollard smashed a match-winning 60* in 32 deliveries, with seven fours and three sixes to help seal the deal at Eden Gardens as MI won the final by 23 runs.

MI clinched their second IPL championship win at Kolkata by 41 runs, yet again versus Chennai. Rohit Sharma was the star with the bat, smashing a superb fifty, while Pollard smoked a blazing 36 in just 18 balls. CSK’s batting was derailed early as Mitchell McClenaghan snapped up 3/25 in his four-over spell. From pressure to power, this was MI at their ruthless best.

Hardik Pandya announces his arrival (2015)

Tough conditions, tougher nerves as MI win by 6 wickets against the Men in Yellow. We chased down 159 in 19.2 overs as a 22-year-old Hardik Pandya produced a thrilling eight-ball 21* which included three sixes. Ambati Rayudu remained unbeaten on 34 in 19 balls.

THAT Lasith Malinga dipping yorker (2019)

One of our most iconic games in IPL history, and just when you thought the game was slipping away, Lasith Malinga bowled an exceptional last over to hand the Men in Blue and Gold threads a thrilling win by one run at Hyderabad. The pendulum kept shifting from one side to another. Slinga Malinga weaved his magic when required the most. The equation came down to two off the last delivery, and in came that swerving yorker, sealing the deal and our fourth title. Earlier, Pollard smashed 41*(25) while Jasprit Bumrah was awarded the POTM for his 2/14.

Pollard’s humongous 87* seals mega chase (2021)

Maharashtra Day in 2021 saw MI clinch an absolute thriller off the last ball, chasing a then-record 219 for victory. Polly just soaked up all the pressure as he smashed 87 not out in 34 balls, with six fours and eight sixes, timing the chase, playing out bowlers, picking his targets, and then acing it to perfection.
