James Pamment: We all know the quality that Quinton possesses

By Mumbai Indians

In the first afternoon fixture of Dream11 IPL 2020, Mumbai Indians went on to register a fantastic win over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

After a combined batting effort from MI led by Quinton de Kock, it was the fast bowling trio who applied themselves well. In the end, the defending champions won by 34 runs.

In the fifth episode of Coach Cam, James Pamment praised the team’s all-round effort at Sharjah. The fielding coach lauded Quinton’s knock, shared his thoughts about Ishan and Rahul’s brilliant catches as well as Trent Boult’s efficiency on the field.

To pick up a win against a strong team is very satisfying

“It’s an excellent win. To travel Sharjah for the first time and to pick up a win against a strong team who have won two matches in a row. To do it in the manner we did it with a very consistent batting performance, good bowling and fielding performance. It’s very satisfying and nice to go back ourselves, to follow on from the good victory we had the other evening.”

Quinton never stopped believing in his ability to be effective

“We all know the quality that Quinton de Kock possesses. So, I’m not saying that it was just a matter of time but you still have to work extremely hard and believe in yourself. He never stopped believing in his ability to be effective for the team. It was nice to see him go on and forge a good partnership with Ishan and set the foundation for those destructive boys to come in at the end.”

The composure Rahul Chahar showed under a high ball was outstanding

“It’s easy for the fielding coach to claim compliments when players pull off moments of brilliance. It’s the work that they do. Ishan Kishan is a wicketkeeper, so you expect him to be able to dive and take a catch. But I thought the composure that Rahul Chahar showed under a high ball was outstanding. That was a brilliant moment for us. Ishan’s catch of David Warner tipped the game a little bit more in our balance, so it was a big moment too. We do work hard and challenge the boys but it’s them doing the work, so it’s them that takes the glory, not us.”

Trent Boult covered a lot of area in the field

“Some guys covered a lot of ground in the field. Trent Boult had an outstanding day with the ball but he also covered a lot of area in the field as well. He touched the ball 18 times which is incredible in a T20 game. We showed good energy and we can be really satisfied with the two points we picked up.”
