Cricket has a unique way of finding its very own people. Once it does, it never lets go. A growing revolution is unfolding on cricket grounds and turfs across Mumbai. All these women come from different professions but once they step onto the field…they speak the same language of passion, perseverance and pure love for the sport. For these wonderful ladies, cricket is more than just a game, it is their heartbeat which keeps pulling them back no matter how busy their life gets.
What makes their stories even more remarkable is not just the cricket they play, but the commitment they show towards it. Between deadlines and duties, they carve out time for the game they love. The game has always belonged to dreamers and today women are writing some of its most inspiring chapters. This is the story of the ladies headlining Mumbai's Jaybharat cricket team.

Urvashi Parekh whose bond with cricket is built on passion and pure love for the game. She shared, “When one is on the field, there is so much work which goes into the game of cricket, especially all the training and fitness sessions that happen behind the scenes. My father supports me to play the sport. It is a ritual to be on the turf every weekend and I wait to put up a status saying that I have won a trophy.”
For Savita Manish Shirishkar, the scoreboard is secondary, the pure connection with the game means everything to her. She added, “We have a ladies cricket group where girls from age 15 to women of 45 years play the sport. All are from different walks of life…some from IT, while others are in the banking sector while some are also housewives. We all come together to play cricket. It is our daily routine…go to work during the day, come home by evening, see to our kids and respective families and then we have late night cricket practice. There is so much craze to play the sport. I feel alive when I am playing cricket and winning trophies with the team.”
Priyanka Singh added, “I like to see myself in a jersey and match attire as the game always inspires me.”
As for Priya Shetty though her schedule is packed, there is always room for cricket. She opined, “If I don’t play cricket, I feel something is missing. Even now if I get injured, I still go out and play. Not even a single day I can imagine not playing cricket. Earlier my parents were unaware that I loved sports so much. When I joined the hostel for Engineering, that is when I started winning lots of medals and cups. When I would bring them home, my mother would ask where I got them from. I would tell her that I earned it.”
So, here’s to the women who refuse to let busy schedules keep them away from the game they love. They make time, show up and enjoy the sport. Their stories are proof that cricket rewards every heart that beats for the game. The game gave them a reason to dream, and in turn…they gave cricket a generation of dreamers!
