“Situation is in our control, just need to take it one game at a time”: Jayawardene
The Boys in Blue and Gold are all set to take the field in their first match after a week-long suspension and it’s the Delhi Capitals who will be the opponents tomorrow at Wankhede!
As things stand, just one point separates the two teams in the Playoffs qualification race. While MI currently occupy the fourth place (14 points from 12 matches), DC are one place adrift with 13 points from 12 matches.
Ahead of the crucial encounter, our Head Coach Mahela Jayawardene opined on the preparation for #MIvDC.
“I think we were always in contention for the playoffs after we had that run. It's good to restart the tournament and play cricket… Training has been pretty good. And, we just take one game time and see what we need to do.
“It's in our control [The situation]. It's great. The message from me for the boys is to make sure that we go through our routines and processes… the way we train, the way we plan.
“I’m very happy with the way we've got about this tournament. The intensity & the way they have reacted to certain situations. I'm not thinking far ahead at the moment. We just need to go out and express ourselves and play a good game of cricket,” MJ said.
Speaking about the situation w.r.t the qualification scenarios and MI’s form so far, MJ said that the boys are raring to make it to the Playoffs following a mini break.
“We were in a [tense] position with one win in five matches. Every game was a must-win from that situation. The boys reacted pretty well. Cricket-wise, I'm not worried about the brand of cricket that we are playing.
“This is what we've all built the team for. We had a break and we've been practising. We've done what we need to do, the simulations and how we want to play this game.
“We’ve a really good experienced unit that can handle the situation. What we can control is preparation for tomorrow's game. It will be a normal game of cricket for them as long as I can get them to think like that. That's the way forward,” Mahela finished.
