MI Junior 2024: R.R. Education, Al-Barkaat advance to semis in Mumbai

R.R. Education Trust (Mulund) trounced IES New English School (Bandra) by 131 runs to advance to the semis of the MI Junior tournament in the Boys' Under-16 category on Friday.

Batting first, R.R. Education put up a challenging total of 237 on the board, with Ayush Jadhav top-scoring with a well-made 79. Evyaan Shaw (5 for 28) then shone with the ball to dismantle IES New English for just 106 runs.

In another Boys’ Under-16 quarter-final, powerhouse Al-Barkaat Malik Muhammad Islam English School (Kurla) sealed a comfortable 8-wicket win over GES (Chembur) to qualify for the semi-finals.

Opting to field first, Al-Barkaat dismissed GES for a paltry 67 runs, courtesy Saad Khan (3 for 8) and Tanveer Chauhan (2 for 11). Al-Barkaat then sailed to victory in just 11.4 overs.

Meanwhile, in a Boys’ Under-14 league game, Aniket Satpute (5 for 8) claimed five scalps to bowl out SIWS High School (Wadala) for a measly 42 runs. Our Lady Of Perpetual Succour High School easily chased down the miniscule target in 4.3 overs.

Rajveersinh Surve (3-15 and 54*) starred with bat and ball to guide Shardashram Vidyamandir (Dadar) to an emphatic 10-wicket win over Hiranandani Foundation School (Thane) in another Boys’ Under-14 league match.

Choosing to bat first, Hiranandani were bundled out for 112 runs, with Aryan Jadhav (4-18) and Rajveersinh doing the bulk of the damage. Rajveersinh’s unbeaten half-century then drove Shardashram to victory in just 20 overs.
