MI players to watch out for in the Sri Lankan tour

By Mumbai Indians

The BCCI on late Thursday night announced the Indians squad for the Sri Lankan tour happening in July 2021. Among the players who made the cut, there were five from the Mumbai Indians contingent.

Here’s a brief take about what they bring to the table for the young Indian team heading out to conquer Sri Lanka in the series with 3 ODIs and 3 T20Is.

Hardik Pandya

The swashbuckling all-rounder is the senior-most in terms of experience among the MI boys who are going to Sri Lanka. His all round abilities not only give the team the required batting depth and firepower, but also an extra bowling option if needed.

While the younger Pandya brother didn’t quite have the IPL he could hope for, it gives him all the more motivation to give his 100% for the upcoming tour. He will be raring to go get to run making ways soon.

Krunal Pandya

Sr. Pandya, who made his ODI debut earlier this year with an emotional knock of 58* against England, will have a lot to prove across formats. While he might have an eye on the upcoming T20 World Cup later this year, in ODIs, he will want to continue performing great.

His best in T20Is is a 4/36, a performance he will want to emulate in the pitches of Sri Lanka, which is known to give ample support to spinners. As a spinning all-rounder, he will want to make the most of the conditions in Sri Lanka.

Ishan Kishan

Ishan made an impressive debut in March this year against England, scoring a 56 (32) and earning the Player of the Match title too. In IPL 2020, he was in sublime form, scoring the most runs for MI in their quest for the fifth title.

However, IPL 2021 was not very friendly to him and the young Jharkhandi would like to undo the same. It is safe to say that Kishan will be looking to blast away at every opportunity given.

Suryakumar Yadav

Starting off your international career with a six is no small deal. And that too off Jofra Archer, with an unconventional knock over your head, shows the quality of batter you are. When Surya announced his arrival on the big stage with a match-winning 57.

He is one of the top contenders for a place in the Indian T20I squad for the World Cup later this year and will play this tournament with that goal in mind. He was in a good form during IPL 2021 too, and will look to continue the same.

Rahul Chahar

He only has to swing his arms and the wickets fall for the opposition - at least, this has been the mantra of late for this young leggie. At just 21 years of age, he has a few international games in his pocket in the shortest format. He will look to make a memorable ODI debut here.

In the scintillating form that he is in of late, it seems like this man can do no wrong. Need wickets? Bring him in. Need to step on the brake for the opposition batters? He’s got it. In this series, Chahar could be out to prove why he belongs to a bigger stage.

Meanwhile, our captain Rohit Sharma and ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah will don the whites to battle it out in the World Test Championship final happening on June 18th. The mega event in Rose Bowl, Southampton, will see the top two Test teams fight it out for the title of the World Test Champions.

We’re so excited to see our boys back in action again. Wishing the best for Rohit and Bumrah for the WTC, and the five youngsters who will be flying to Sri Lanka shortly! We’re rooting for you, heroes!
