By Mumbai Indians

Roll down the carpet! We are three days away from the World Test Championship 2023 final.

The hunger to win and all-round supremacy in all departments saw India outshine Sri Lanka with a 2-0 series clean sweep. You need to sit and follow our lead as we take you through all that happened in the fourth chapter of Road to the WTC Final 2023.

The 1st Test | Mohali - India win

If anyone asks you to summarise the 2022 IND vs SL Test at Mohali, here’s what you should say - ‘Sir’ Ravindra Jadeja. That’s it.

India won the toss, batted first, and posted 574/8d in their first innings. While Rishabh Pant (96), with support from Hanuma Vihari (58), got the hosts to 332/6 in the 81st over, a carnage innings from Ravindra Jadeja (175 not out) alongside Ravichandran Ashwin’s 61 ensured India sailed past 500 and that SL’s bowlers were left listless.

Jadeja and Ashwin didn’t let it end just yet. With their trademark googlies, Jaddu (5/41) and Ashwin (2/49) floored the Lankan batting order and restricted them to 174.

What’s next? India forces a follow-on upon Sri Lanka. Does Sri Lanka make a comeback? No, or instead, they were denied. The Jadeja-Ashwin combo struck once again, grabbing four wickets a piece to bundle out the visitors for 178.

The result? Victory by an innings and 222 runs for India. Why is it special? Rohit Sharma won in his first assignment as the new full-time Test captain.

The 2nd Test | Bengaluru - India win

A win, records broken and a key WTC milestone: the key takeaways from this Test.

India hopped, skipped and jumped to 252 in 59.1 overs after deciding to bat first. Except for Shreyas Iyer (92), the sluggish wicket on offer made it a bit frustrating for our batters to accelerate the innings. Sri Lanka, likewise, were clueless about their run-making strategy. Amidst the chaos, Jasprit Bumrah claimed his first five-wicket haul on home soil (5/24).

Shreyas maintained his momentum with the bat from the first innings as his 67 in 87 balls ensured India were on course for a match-defining 300-plus total - 303/9d. Praveen Jayawickrama was the most successful SL bowler in this period with a 4/78.

Chasing 447, the Lankan Lions would lose opener Lahiru Thirimanne (0) within the first three deliveries. Going forward, it was an uphill battle as they had to counter the bowling wizardry of Ravi Ashwin (4/55) and Bumrah (3/23). Dimuth Karunaratne’s blood-dripping 107 was perhaps the only defensive wall standing in their way of India, but after his dismissal in the 56th over, it was an open road to a 238-run victory for Rohit Sharma and Co.

With the 2-0 series win, India returned to winning ways after the setback against South Africa. Ravichandran Ashwin became the first bowler to claim 100 wickets in the World Test Championship and Rohit Sharma rose to the occasion as the became 5th Indian skipper to win his first two Test matches as captain.
