Rohit Sharma, the ODI and Test captain of the Indian cricket team, has announced his retirement from the longest format of the game.

Rolling back the years, a 22-year-old Mumbaicha Mulga was all set to make his Test debut in the opening Test of the South Africa tour of India 2010, only to be denied by an unfortunate ankle injury during the fielding drills on the morning of the action. 😕 

Three years later, the perseverance finally paid off as it was a dream-come-true moment for our superstar, who made his much-awaited Test debut in November 2013, marking the onset of something extraordinary…

The series will fondly be remembered as Sachin Tendulkar’s farewell from all formats of the game and आपला Rohit couldn’t have found a better way to kickstart his Test career.

Coming in at no. 6 in the first Test at the Eden Gardens, the right-handed batter’s 177 runs with the help of 23 fours & one maximum played an instrumental role in Team India’s resounding win by an innings and 51 runs, bagging the Player of the Match award! Yeh toh bas shuruwaat hai…

He continued his debut’s breathtaking exploits in the following match, scoring an unbeaten 111 in another terrific victory by an innings and 126 runs to collect the Player of the Series award. What a fitting way to bid adieu to the Master Blaster! 👏

South Africa tour of India 2019 | Transition to opening slot!

Back to his favourite spot in the batting line-up ahead of the South Africa series in 2019, Rohit didn’t put any brakes on the flow runs and went about his business as usual

In his first match as a Test opener, RO registered tons in both innings (176 and 127), smashing a record 13 sixes, powering the Indian cricket team to a terrific 203-run win.

The third Test of the series saw him go one level up, playing out a cracking 212-run knock laced with 28 fours and six maximums. In the post-match press conference, he summed up his thoughts in a typical Rohit Sharma fashion! 😂

England tour of India 2021 | Comeback win & top run-getter

Following a 227-run hammering in the first Test, Team India roared back in style to clinch the series by 3-1.

Rohit Sharma contributed significantly, finishing as the leading run-scorer for India, amassing 345 runs in four matches, including one century and fifty apiece.

In the fourth match at The Oval, RO played a brilliant 127-run knock in the second innings to bring up his maiden away century in Tests, helping his side make a terrific comeback after being on the backfoot for the majority of the game.

India won the match by 157 runs as Rohit was adjudged as the Player of the Match. 💪
