“Serious dislocation, took injections to get back on” – Dravid on Rohit

The game was dead. The pitch was getting stickier by the over. India were seven down, and 59 runs away with a required run-rate of over eight-an-over. 15 balls and six runs later, Deepak Chahar, perhaps the recognized batter, succumbed. Bangladesh were sniffing an easy 2-0.

Rohit Sharma, with a split webbing and a finger dislocation suffered while trying to take a catch in the slips, back from the hospital, was in at number 9. Mohammad Siraj was at the other end. The equation: 59 runs | 29 balls | 2 wickets remaining.

Through all this, Siraj wasn’t able to lay bat on ball through an entire over. Another over through all this, saw just one run being scored. India needed an absolute miracle. The miracle was our skipper. Batting with a cut glove and a plaster popping off his thumb, he cut loose.

"He had to go to the hospital. There was a serious dislocation in his hand. He had to get it set at the hospital, take a couple of injections and then get back to the field. Credit to him, he was very determined to have a go out and take a chance. It was amazing how close he got us," Rahul Dravid, India’s Head Coach said after the game.

Well, it indeed was close. From 59 off 29, to 41 off 24, to 40 off 12, to 20 off 6, to 12 off 2, to 6 off 1. Single-handedly, and indeed with one fit hand, he nearly pulled it off.

It was a 2-0 to Bangladesh eventually, but not without a proper fight. A lone fight, against odds, against pain, against the conditions. Captain Ro, ROared!
