A must-win game. A run fest. India showed why they are the defending champions, scripting a 72-run win over Zimbabwe.
Batting first, the hosts went on a rampage with 256/4 on the scoreboard. Abhishek Sharma (55), Hardik Pandya (50*), and Tilak Varma (44*) were the top performers in the run-scoring exhibition at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Zimbabwe fight, Arshdeep roars
On the back of a second consecutive 250-plus score against them, the Chevrons rode on opener Brian Bennett’s spirited innings to post 184/6. With support from skipper Sikandar Raza (31), the opener hit a 59-ball 97 to ensure Zimbabwe didn’t let it be a straight walk in the walk.
Arshdeep Singh, on his part, had the last laugh with the ball as he grabbed three wickets for 24 runs. During this run, he became India’s leading wicket-taker in the T20 World Cup (35).
