From humble backgrounds in the villages of Uttar Pradesh, Sonam Yadav is just the inspirational story you expect the WPL to throw up. The youngest of seven siblings, her cricketing talent was spotted by her brother and her coach at a very early age. She started off as a batter, but it was her left-arm spin that took her to bigger heights.
It was in 2017 that was drafted into the UP under-19 side, and in 2018, pulled off a stunning win the under-19 domestic finals against Andhra, picking up the last three wickets to clinch the low-scoring thriller. Her growth through the ranks was quick, and in 2023, was a part of the title-winning Indian side at the inaugural u-19 T20 World Cup. Getting the opportunity to rub shoulders with the legends of the game at MI for the WPL is only set to lift her game to the next level. Remember, she isn’t even 16 yet!
