Batters chase down 160 to back up bowlers’ magic against DC

A fiery three-wicket spell from Jasprit Bumrah and big innings from Ishan Kishan, Tim David and Dewald Brevis ensured that we finished the season on a high.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to field first and brought back Hrithik Shokeen and Brevis for Tristan Stubbs and Sanjay Yadav.

Our bowlers began well with the new ball as Dan Sams and Hrithik Shokeen bowled restrictive lines. Sams dismissed Warner in the third over before Boom struck in his first to remove Mitchell Marsh.

Boom soon also dismissed Prithvi Shaw with an unplayable bouncer and Mayank Markande also struck to remove Sarfaraz Khan with a sharp turner to reduce DC to 50/4 in 8.4 overs.

DC skipper Rishabh Pant and Rovman Powell then shared a big 75-run stand but did not find too many boundaries as our bowlers used the slow pitch to good advantage.

Ramandeep Singh gave us the all-important wicket of Pant off a wide one before Boom returned with a scorching yorker to remove the dangerous Powell. DC eventually ended with 159/7 on the board.

In response, Rohit and Ishan began cautiously, scoring 25 in five overs to counter some prodigious swing on offer before Ro chipped one to mid-on to walk back in the sixth over.

Brevis joined Ishan and the duo put on a 50-run stand, finding the boundaries at will off spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav.

Ishan then just fell short of a well-deserved half-century after holing out to mid-wicket off Kuldeep Yadav and Brevis also fell two overs later for a well-made 37.

Tim David and Tilak Varma joined forces at the crease and some mighty hits from the former turned the equation in our favour.

He hit a six and a four off Khaleel Ahmed and scored two sixes off Shardul Thakur before mistiming another attempted big hit. However, we only needed 14 in the last two overs by this point.

Despite losing Tilak in the penultimate over, two fours from Ramandeep Singh ensured that we chased down 160 in the final over and finished on a high.

Skipper Ro acknowledged as much later.

“We were here to win the game and wanted to finish on a high. I think we performed well in the second half of the season,” he stated at the post-match presentation.

He also felt the partnership between Ishan Kishan and Dewald Brevis was crucial to the chase in challenging conditions.

“It was a sluggish pitch and I did not think it was a 160 pitch. We did not get a good start but the Ishan-Brevis partnership put us in a good position. We can take a few positives from the season and congrats to all the teams who qualified,” Ro signed off.

A complete performance from both the bowlers and batters was the perfect way to finish off the season.

A big thanks to our Paltan for showing us their constant support right through the season, we will be back stronger next year!
