West Indies fought back during the third ODI, winning the contest by five wickets at PCA International Cricket Stadium, New Chandigarh all thanks to their skipper Shai Hope’s top-class knock. India on the other hand did try hard, but alas it was not meant to be even though KL Rahul made 129 not out and Rohit Sharma contributed 92.

Though India had a slow start, were 4/2 in 2.4 overs and later found themselves on the back foot at 28/2 in 10 overs. Rohit Sharma carried on with his brilliant form. He took his time in the middle, settled down and then played his shots. He helped steady the Indian ship and along with Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 137 runs partnership. He patiently built the innings, soaked in the pressure and later shifted gears in his trademark fashion. He had the crowd roaring and applauding his effort as he reached his half century. Milestone alert for him- 10,000 runs as an ODI opener for our very own Hitman. In the end, he contributed an extremely valuable 92(85), powered by 10 fours and three sixes.

Ruturaj’s half ton, Naman Dhir’s quick-fire cameo

Batting at number four and riding on luck, Ruturaj Gaikwad had a field day. He later also scored his half century, 57(69) while Naman Dhir showed plenty of promise with a flurry of boundaries. Naman took the attack back to the bowlers, scoring 31(21), with three fours and two sixes.

KL Rahul played a masterclass knock, producing an unbeaten 129 in just 87 balls, with 10 fours and six sixes. A knock that will be remembered for ages! When wickets tumbled around him, he switched gears beautifully, combining composure with clean striking.

He made sure that he remained till the very end, helping India reach a massive 351/7 in 50 overs. En route he also smashed his highest ODI score. Jayden Seales snapped up 3/62 in his 10 overs.    

Hope’s century, Jangoo’s half ton put West Indies in a commanding position

A 109 runs partnership between West Indies skipper Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo put the visitors on the front foot. They rotated the strike well, had a set plan for every bowler and utilised the conditions well. Amir Jangoo was then run out on 67 all thanks to a great combined effort from Virat Kohli and Naman Dhir. The Windies were 150/2 in 20.4 overs. Shai led from the front showing how it is done and played his heart out in the middle. He remained not out on 162 off 143 deliveries.

Naman Dhir did bowl well and picked 1/33 in 5.2 overs while others went for massive runs. West Indies chased down the total 352/5 in 48.2 overs, winning the contest by five wickets.
