The Indian men’s team will hope to put their early setback against South Africa behind them as they travel to the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack for the second T20I on Sunday, June 12.
The upcoming fixture will mark the return of T20 International cricket to the venue for the first time since 2017. India have a balanced record - one win and one draw - at this ground.
Here are some key pointers ahead of the upcoming T20I match:
Ishan steps up in time
With the opening pairing of Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul not involved in India’s T20I series against South Africa, Ishan Kishan showed he can carry the baton in their stead with a confident knock of 76 runs in just 48 balls.
It was his third half-century in 11 innings for India , and is a continuation of his form from the recently-concluded Tata IPL where he finished as our top run-getter with 418 runs.
A change in attack?
Rishabh Pant and the Indian team will review their bowlers following the defeat in the first T20I, and they have two impressive pacers in Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh in the squad, who could be potential wildcards.
Malik was one of the biggest surprises in the 2022 Tata IPL season, where he clocked bowling speeds in excess of 150 kmph on multiple occasions while Arshdeep impressed with his control and ability to bowl in all phases of the game.
David Miller’s resurgence continues
South African star David Miller enjoyed splendid performances in a title-winning Tata IPL campaign with Gujarat Titans, and carried it onto the international format with an unbeaten 31-ball 64 to take the Proteas to victory last time.
With his half-century coming in just 22 balls, Miller showed how dangerous he still is with the bat and it is something India will be vary of ahead of the second T20I.
The series began with an exciting contest and we are hoping for more of the same in this match.
