Meet MI’s exciting new young guns for 2022

By Mumbai Indians

We analysed MI’s batters and bowlers over the past two days and now, in the final part of the squad analysis, we come to the youngsters.

MI brought in quite a few young players during the mega-auctions, with specific roles in mind, as Ro pointed out.

So let’s look into the young guns in MI for 2022.

Tilak Varma

One of the most promising talents in the country, Tilak Varma was almost destined to play for MI, with him being a fan of both Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit Sharma.

The 19-year-old was the highest scorer at the U-16 level in India in 2016-17 and was part of the Indian squad for the 2020 U19 World Cup, where they lost in the final.

Primarily a top-order batter, Tilak can also roll his arm over for some off-spin if needed.

Dewald Brevis

Dewald Brevis or DB, as Ro has nicknamed him, shot to fame during the 2022 U19 World Cup, where he scored 506 runs and picked up seven wickets for South Africa.

That run tally was the highest-ever in a single edition of an U19 World Cup, going past Shikhar Dhawan’s 505 in 2004.

What really caught everyone’s eye was his beautiful strokeplay and range of shots. DB is also a multi-faceted player, while mainly a batter, he can also be deceptive with his leg-spin.

Aryan Juyal

A talented batter, Aryan Juyal also doubles up as a wicket-keeper and will likely be back-up to Ishan Kishan this season.

Juyal was part of India’s victorious U19 World Cup team in 2018, where he played two matches. When he was selected for the squad, he was only the second uncapped player in the team.

He is someone who can open the batting or come lower down the order.

Hrithik Shokeen

A talented off-spinner, this Tata IPL season will be the first taste of T20 cricket for Hrithik Shokeen.

At just 21 years old, Hrithik has already represented India in both U19 and U23 levels, which shows his immense talent.

Hrithik can also swing his bat a bit down the order.
