Rohit’s Love for Eden Gardens

Rohit’s Love for Eden Gardens

By Mumbai Indians

There’s no secret to it, Rohit Sharma absolutely loves batting at the Eden Gardens. Be it T20s, ODIs or Test Cricket, the Hitman has some sweet memories from his favourite hunting ground. His affair with the ground started in 2012, when he scored 109* off 60 balls against KKR in the IPL. The World Record of 264 runs in the ODI against Sri Lanka in November 2013 and a century on his Test debut that made him the 14th Indian to do so for the Indian Cricket team also came at Kolkata in the same year. When Mumbai Indians met Chennai Super Kings in the 2015 IPL final at Kolkata, Rohit scored a rapid 26 ball 50 to win the match and lifted the trophy as captain for the 2nd time!

When asked about his love for the ground on a social networking site, Rohit revealed “Every cricketer has a ground where they feel comfortable. Eden Gardens has given me a lot ever since the first time I played there since 2007 for Mumbai. I cannot forget the World Record there, had also scored my Test debut 100 there. There is lots more to come in the future as well!”

In the 1st warm up game against West Indies, he scored a blistering 98 runs off 57 balls on the same ground. His style of play is not different than the batsman he’d like to follow: Adam Gilchrist. If you think of it, Adam opened the innings for Australia, had a simple yet lethal batting technique that could rip apart any bowling attack. He improved his game whenever the opposition found a weak spot and had his ups and downs too. In Cricket and life in general, learning is a continuous process. One needs to adapt and transform if necessary, well that’s Rohit Sharma for you in a nutshell– he adapts, learns from his mistakes & comes back with a bang!

Team India needs the Mumbai Indians skipper to give that steady yet productive start that the Twenty20 format demands from an opener. India lost their opening game of the Super 10s against New Zealand in the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

was disheartening to see Rohit’s wicket fall after just 5 runs. Team India and the fans would expect him to bounce back from this defeat as the opposition only gets tough for India from here on in the form of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Australia. The team also requires a high Net Run Rate and points to qualify for the next round and we reckon Rohit will resume his destructive role, what do you think?

He’s not only a player but also an inspiration for youngsters and this would hold true especially in the near future as he would have a bigger role to play in guiding Indian cricket in the right direction.
